Advertising on the site
The site is funded by advertising. On this page we're open about what kinds of ads we show, where they are and what they don't affect.
Why there are ads on the site
The calculators are free and using them requires no registration. Servers, the domain and content maintenance still cost money, and that's covered by advertising. The alternative would be a paywall or selling user data – we don't want to do either.
What kinds of ads we show
Ad network. The ads are served through the Google AdSense network. We don't choose individual advertisers and we can't be responsible for the ads' content. If you see an ad you find inappropriate or misleading, tell us via the contact page – we can block ad categories.
Ad slots. There are at most five ad slots per page: under the heading, above and below the calculator, in the sidebar and at the end of the page. The slots are sized in advance, so the content doesn't jump when an ad loads. The calculator's input fields and result are never covered by an ad.
What isn't an ad. The site's internal links, the calculators' results and the article recommendations are not paid. No advertiser influences the result a calculator gives or what's written on the pages.
Commercial partnerships
If we ever publish commercial partnership content or affiliate links, it will be clearly marked at that point with the words ad, commercial partnership or affiliate link. At the moment there are no affiliate links on the site.
Advertising and privacy
The advertising partner may use cookies to target and measure ads. You can limit personalised advertising in Google's ad settings and in your browser's settings. We don't pass the numbers you enter into the calculators to the ad network – they never leave your browser at all. More detail: the privacy policy and the cookie policy.
